Red Cabbage

Family favorite German Red Cabbage


1 large red cabbage
1 small apple cored, pealed and chopped into small pieces
1 medium onion diced (about 1/2 cup)
1 tsp cloves
2 bay leaves
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
salt and pepper to taste


  1. Slice the cabbage into small stripts. I like to quarter it, cut out the stem and slice into about 1/8th inch strips
  2. Put everything in a large pot
  3. Cook over medium heat until cabbage is desired tenderness

Remove Bay leaves and any cloves you find before serving
This freezes very well especially if you leave it a little bit crunchy
For a little kick add a pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne
